Please note that the Jump Start Program is now fully booked for 2007. Please see our private dog training classes for team training opportunities.
NorthWest K9 offers the 2-week in-house Jump Start Board and Train Program as an adjunct to private team training lessons for students who want to advance their dog's training with intensive in-house training at our Bar K Ranch residential training facility in Enumclaw, Washington. Enrollment in the Jump Start Program is limited to students who have already enrolled in a minimum of three private team training lessons, to ensure that our intensive in-house training complements the student's training, handling, and management knowledge and skills. There is little benefit to training a dog but not the owner, and combining private handler and dog training lessons with our in-house intensive Jump Start training program will bring both you and your dog to the optimal level of learning, training, and performance in the shortest period of time.
The 2-week NorthWest K9 Jump Start Board and Train Program is an intensive two-week program providing one-on-one care, attentive interaction, and customized behavioral shaping and formal training while your dog stays at NorthWest K9. We accept qualifying puppies and dogs 9 weeks of age and older on a space-available basis into our in-house training program. We limit enrollment in this program to ensure that each dog receives the maximum time, attention, and care while enrolled in this intensive training course. NorthWest K9 offers a variety of training course options while your dog stays
in the safety and comfort of a home environment.
A Team Evaluation and Introductory Lesson are prerequisites for first-time students enrolling
in any Jump Start Board and Train program. Our emphasis on total team training ensures that your personal trainer has a clear
understanding of where you and your dog currently are and, more importantly, where you want to be at the completion of your dog's Jump Start training.
For those seeking a comprehensive training program that addresses house manners, leash manners, and obedience or tracking skills development,
dogs new to our training program enroll in a minimum of two weeks of
Jump Start Board and Train. The first day or two of your dog's stay here, he or she is typically
"settling in" while we are building a familiarity and relationship with your dog prior to commencing intensive
formal training. We have found that training and skills development accelerates during the second week,
after we have established the groundwork for positive training and enthusiastic learning and developed a strong
working bond with your dog.
While enrolled in Jump Start, your dog stays primarily in the residence, with some time spent in the outdoor kennel.
All dogs sleep inside the home overnight. Your dog does not spend time playing or mingling with other dogs;
all exercise, play, and training is conducted under the
trainer's direct supervision in the fully-fenced designated play and training areas at our facility.
Beginning dogs are formally instructed in crate training, fundamental house manners, beginning obedience,
and relevant behavioral modification. All activities
inside the home, going in and out of the house, around the training facility, and at adjacent locations are
conducted under obedience and create endless opportunities for obedience skills development and training. Starting
from the first day of Jump Start, your dog begins to learn basic commands such as crate, wait, come out, quiet,
leash, sit, go out, go in. More advanced dogs will receive advanced obedience or
tracking training according to their training and skills status and owner preference.
Your dog is custom trained to your training plan specifications and incrementally brought
to more advanced skills competency by NorthWest K9 Training Director Moc Klinkam in several one-on-one training sessions
each training day. Lessons are conducted first on the NorthWest K9 premises and
then transition to public venues with plenty of people, traffic, and other "real life" distractions. Formal
training provides the opportunity to develop advanced obedience skills to such commands as
look (focus), heel, down, leave it and come with increasing distraction, duration, and distance.
Your dog's formal training sessions are scheduled between lots of play and exercise time on our five fully-fenced acres
of open fields and woodland forest and the adjacent state park with freshwater swimming.
When you pick your dog up at the completion of your dog's Jump Start training at NorthWest K9, you and
your dog participate in an additional follow-up 80-minute private team training lesson that is included with your Jump Start. The
follow-up private team training lesson gives you the opportunity to review your dog's new
foundation obedience, agility, or tracking skills and work with your personal trainer one-on-one. Many of our Jump Start students elect
to continue their advanced training even further with an additional series of private lessons.
Your pre-boarding Team Evaluation and private team training lesson and your post-boarding private team training lesson ensure that you
are a full participant in your dog's training plan and skills development. This holistic approach to team training
ultimately brings you and your dog more quickly to your training and handling goals. We believe so strongly in the
wisdom and effectiveness of dog and handler team training that we do not offer boarding only, or Board and Train
without dog and handler team training lessons.
